Profile:

It takes the patience of a monk and the heart of a lion to sit next to Ponsiano Lwakataka, and Paul Musazi has both   plus a secret stash of prayers for emergencies! Calm, calculated, and possibly a little too brave for his own good, Musazi has been the chief survival officer of the Mafu Mafu Rally Team for years. While Lwakataka is busy breaking speed limits and scaring wildlife, Musazi sits there flipping pace notes like a DJ at a party, calling out corners like he’s reading bedtime stories   except the bedtime stories involve 120kph hairpins and flying over jumps.

But Musazi doesn’t just read pace notes   he delivers them like a man leading mass and conducting the choir at the same time. A proud member of the church choir, his voice inside the cockpit is nothing short of divine: calm on the straights, melodic through the corners, and borderline angelic when calling a flat-out jump. Some say if you mute the in-car footage, you’ll still hear him echoing in Latin.

Before every stage, Musazi blesses the Subaru N12 with a quick prayer and a flick of imaginary holy water   just to make sure both machine and men are under heavenly protection. After all, when you’re co-driving for Ponsiano Lwakataka, you need more than just a helmet — you need the full armor of God!

With Lwakataka at full attack and the Subaru sliding like a thurible on Easter Sunday, Musazi’s job is part co-driver, part cantor, part spiritual advisor. If you listen closely during a stage, you might catch Lwakataka shouting “Hallelujah! Sanctus! Hold tight, Father, we’re flying!” as they tear through the Ugandan bush.

He is one of the most experienced co-drivers in the game, Musazi’s loyalty to Lwakataka is unmatched. This year, at the Shell V-Power Pearl of Africa Uganda Rally 2025, their mission is loud and clear: collect maximum NRC points and stretch their championship lead.

Together in the Subaru N12, these 2 are not just racing they’re making a statement.
